CREDIT PROGRAMS (Academic and Clock Hour)

Semester Credit Classes which include general education core courses are offered each semester. Some of these classes fulfill program prerequisites and expose students to higher education.

The Practical Nursing Program is a one-year program in preparation for the State of Illinois Licensed Practical Nurse Exam , which leads to certification and employment. Course work is transferable to Registered Nursing programs. Some credit hour prerequisites are required.

The Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) program prepares the student to use computer software to design, program, set up, operate and maintain machines that produce assorted parts for the manufacturing industry, and also includes fundamental training in basic manufacturing.

The Electric/Electronics Industrial Maintenance (EEIM) program covers both residential and commercial wiring and a wide range of other electric and electronic applications such as motors, industrial controls, pneumatics, hydraulics, electronic instrumentation and programmable logic.

The Information Processing Technology (IPT) program is a comprehensive office and computer skills program preparing the student for a job in an office environment. Students learn to use MS Word Office Suite, Desktop Publishing, the Internet, as well as Business Writing and Math.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

We offer short and long-term career training programs and special interest courses in computers, allied health, business and much more, through the Continuing Education Department. A student can obtain a certificate, usually within a year, as a Certified Nurse Assistant, Phlebotomist, Medical Office Assistant, or a Pharmacy Technician.

Through the sponsorship of the Greater Humboldt Park Microloan Program, a consortium of banks and not-for-profit organizations, we offer the FirstStep Fast-Trac™ for Business Start-ups. This is a 12-week program designed and promoted by the Kauffman Foundation, geared towards entrepreneurship education, prepares individuals to start a new business or develop an existing one.

We also offer a number of other special interest courses in computer training, Intensive ESL, Conversational English for Non-Native Speakers, Conversational Spanish, and a variety of classes for children in the areas of English and Mathematics, as well as Spanish for children.

ADULT EDUCATION

Tuition-free courses in ESL and GED are being offered to an ever-growing number of students. A variety of software is available in our community computer lab to provide self-paced tutorials.
