The Wright College Circle-K Club, sponsored by the Portage Park Kiwanis Club, is a member of Circle-K International with over 800 clubs in the United States and Canada. The club is a service organization interested in men and women who are recognized for their leadership qualities, especially former Key Club members.

Students who enjoy the game of chess or want to learn will have the opportunity.

This is a club for interested students who would like to learn more about art forms, techniques, and mediums.

Forensics Team*

This new team on campus is based around competitive public speaking and competitive performance art. Students will be trained to excel in the command of a room, argumentation, research and evoking emotion in speeches and performance literature.

Diversity [Student Newspaper]**

Diversity offers students an opportunity to learn and use journalistic skills in a practical setting on a student-run publication.  Student staff members gain experience in newspaper writing, layout, editing, advertising, and photography in addition to providing Wright College students, faculty, and staff with Campus news.  Participation by all full-time and part-time students is welcome.  Contact the staff in the mailbox in S. 134 or in the Diversity office, A. 329.

This new club provides students with the opportunity to learn about starting their own business and to meet entrepreneurs.

Join this club to encourage recycling  and environmental awareness both on campus and in the community: Wright College/Eli’s Cheesecake Farmers’ Market Days [mid-June through mid-October], Earth Day, City of Chicago Green Clean Program Events.

Freedom Club/ Room for All*

The Club is a GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) club that aims to provide a safe and accepting environment for all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students, faculty and staff as well as straight students who support friends and family who are GLBT. Their mission is to raise awareness of the GLBT issues and offer supports through dialogue and events to promote tolerance and diversity within the Wright College Community.

Future Teachers of Chicago*

Students who are interested in the benefits of teaching in the City of Chicago and plan to embrace teaching as a career will enjoy membership in the Future Teachers of America chapter at Wright College.

Great Books Club*

The Great Books Club is open to all students who have an interest in discussing the Great Books. Topics for each meeting are selected by students and moderated by the faculty advisors who teach the Great Books Curriculum.

The Medically Minded Club is organized for Wright College students who are in the professional health fields. It provides access to mentor health professionals, health organizations, and available health-related positions.

Music Organizations

Northwest Chicago Symphony Orchestra*                  Conductor: Asst. Professor Ismail Mehmeti                        Under the direction of Asst. Prof. Ismail Mehmeti, NCSO performs at least four times each year.  Interested students who want to participate with our resident orchestra should call the Performing Arts Department at 773-481-8863 to make an audition appointment or make contact in E.204.

Instrumental Ensembles*                                                  Professor Emeritus Michael Holian                                     These ensembles perform several times each year at Wright College. Various small groups such as string quartets, guitar choirs, woodwind ensembles, etc. are some of the typical combinations qualified students may join.

Wright College Chorus*                                                       Director, Professor Rich Gerson                                  Membership in this vocal group is open to all Wright College students interested in perfoming songs of the best choral works from folk, religious, or theatre areas. For auditions, contact the Performing Arts Department, E.204.

Music Club*                                                                    Advisor, Asst. Prof. Ismail Mehmeti                                       Solo and group recitals of classical and pop music, and students’ performances are some of the events arranged by the Music Club for Wright College Students. The club has parties and trips, also.  The Performing Arts Department in E. 204 will provide details.

Phi Theta Kappa, Theta Omega Chapter*

This is a national honor society, which is the counterpart for two-year colleges of Phi Beta Kappa on four-year campuses. The purpose is to recognize scholarship and to serve the college in various ways. Students who are on the Dean’s List [3.5 G.P.A.] and who maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. over-all average are considered for membership.

Polish Club

Members of this club are enrolled in the college of Foreign Languages Polish class and enjoy learning about the history, culture, and language of Poland.

Radiography Club*

The purpose of the Student Radiography Organizatin [S.R.O.] is to enable students who are interested in Radiography to learn about its many aspects.  It will also provide information relating to professional and social activities.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers [S.H.P.E.]*

This club provides numerous opportunities for interested students to meet area professionals who may offer a favorable mentor network.

Spanish Club

Students who are enrolled in the college credit Foreign Languages Spanish classes enjoy additional opportunities to master the language, culture, and history of this far-flung people.

Stage Wright Theater Club*

Stage Wright Theater Club is closely allied with our new Performing Arts Department. It provides students with experience opportunities in acting, playwriting, lights, directing, publicity, stage managing, sound, and tech.

Student Government Association*

The Wright College Student Government Association [S.G.A.] maintains its offices in S106.  Each Spring, elections are held for the offices of President, Vice President, and 10 senatorial positions.  A variety of S.G.A. Cabinet Officers and Student Representatives to College Committees are appointed by the S.G.A. president.  Any student may apply for these positions through S.G.A..

Also all clubs select their own Student Representatives who must attend S.G.A. meetings.

The S.G.A. Senate is the spokesperson for the student body to the faculty and administrators.  It is instrumental, through its various committees, in planning the activity calendar and implementing programs.

The goals of the group are 1) to initiate and coordinate student activities, 2) to establish efficient means of communication among the student body, the faculty, and the administration, and 3) to crystallize and make effective the best of student opinion.

The S.G.A. meets weekly and all students are welcome to attend the meetings.  Help is always needed for the various projects handled by the Student Government Association.

This club takes a pro-active role in promoting peace and justice in our communities.

Symposium**

This student publication which is produced by the Great Books Program at Wright College, features writings by students enrolled in any of the Great Books courses.  See Professor Bruce Gans in the English Department, L.323.

The Wright Side**

The Wright Side is Wright College’s literary magazine.  Open to all Wright College students, this annual also has provided many journalism majors and English Majors with a forum for their works.  No experience is necessary. University Bible Fellowship Club

Students interested in the teachings of the Bible could join this club.

Students who want to start new clubs are encouraged to come into the Student Affairs/Activities Office, S 134, for information and a club packet.

 

All clubs’ mailboxes are located in S 134. Each club should designate a member to check its mailbox daily.

 

REMINDER: Each Fall Semester and each Spring semester all clubs must re-register in S 134.
