CAMPUS SECURITY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - 2007
Introduction
Chapter 110 Section 805/3-42.1 of the Illinois Compiled
Statutes authorizes the appointment of persons to be members of the Security
Department of the college. Security Officers under this statute are
conservators of the peace and as such have the power to make arrests on view or with warrants for
violations of state statutes and city and county ordinances when such action is necessary for the
protection of students, college personnel and college property or when requested by
proper state or local law enforcement officials.
Campus Security Policy
It is the policy of the Security
Department of Wilbur Wright College to enforce all State Statutes and City and County
ordinances as they apply to the operations and functions of the college and to enforce the
rules and regulations of the college. The mission of the Security Department is to provide
a safe and secure environment to the Wright College Community, this will be
accomplished through the implementation of this policy.
No rule or regulation of the
College shall apply to a student’s off-campus activities, unless the College’s
interests as an academic community are distinctly and clearly involved.
It is the policy of the Wright
College Security Department to report and investigate all crimes occurring on
this campus. The Security Department will
report all crimes to the Chicago Police Department and assist in the
investigation, arrest and prosecution.
Campus Security Procedures
Wright College security personnel
are on duty twenty four hours a day. There are two Campus sites.
Wright
North – 4300 N. Narragansett Avenue
The
main security desk is located in Campus Center. The telephone numbers at that desk are (773)481-8970 and
8971. The Security Department administrative office and the Director’s
office are in Room E108 of the Events building. The administrative numbers are (773) 481-8123 and
8124.
Wright
Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center –
1645 North California Avenue
The
Security Department office is located in Room 129 which is first floor center. The phone numbers are
(773)489-8921 and 8922.
Reporting
Any person can report criminal
actions or other emergencies occurring on campus to the Security Department. On
receiving a report of a crime, the College Security staff will investigate the incident and
record all information on an Incident Report. If the investigation determines that any
criminal law was broken, the Security staff will immediately notify the Chicago
Police Department, apprehend the alleged offender if he/she is still on campus,
identify and interview all witnesses, secure the crime scene and assist the Chicago Police
Department in any manner necessary to insure criminal prosecution.
Firearms,
other Weapons and Explosives
No person, while on Wright
College property, shall carry firearms, or other dangerous or deadly weapons, or explosives,
either openly or concealed, except those person officially authorized by local,
state or federal laws.
Smoking
In compliance with state law,
Wright College, as a public institution, maintains a NO SMOKING policy.
Disciplinary
Sanctions
Any individual found in violation
of the Drug and Alcohol policy or who has committed a criminal act on Wright
College property, will be subject to disciplinary sanctions up to and including discharge from
employment if an employee or permanent expulsion from college classes if a student. Disciplinary sanctions will be
imposed in accordance with the applicable disciplinary procedures of the College. Both
the victim and the accused will be informed of the outcome of any campus
disciplinary proceedings concerning an alleged crime.
Crime
awareness and safety programs
The college offers programs and
material to inform students and employees about the prevention of crime, personal
safety and security measures. Information regarding these programs and materials can
be obtained from the Security Departments at both campuses.
As of 1 August 1991, the Wright
College Security Department has collected information for disclosure of campus crime
statistics and as of 1 September 1992 has made such statistics available to the
College Administration for publication and distribution to ALL current students and employees.

Periodically, crime/security
alert notices are prepared by the security department to notify students, employees and
visitors of crimes that have or may occur on campus or in the community, and to provide
information regarding prevention of crime. These notices are posted (North Campus)
in the Campus Center, (South Campus) on the bulletin boards located next to
Room 107B and (Humboldt Park VEC) outside Security Office. Copies of crime/security
alert notices are available from the Security Departments at all campuses.
Additionally, WYCC-TV (Channel
20, the CCC television station), offers periodic programming on topics such as:
campus rape; confronting violence; violence against women and gang rape on campus.
Specific information regarding this programming can be obtained by calling the
station (773))838-7878, by checking your local TV Guide, or the WYCC-TV monthly broadcast
schedule.
Counseling
& Other Assistance
The College maintains a list of
agencies that provide substance abuse counseling and/or treatment, as well as
counseling sources for victims of sex crimes. The College will provide a referral list upon
request. However, the College does not assume financial responsibility for
costs related to treatment or counseling obtained from the agency or counselor. A copy of
the referral list may be obtained from the North Campus Room S134 Student Activities.
Staff members can also obtain treatment or counseling Referrals from their health care
provider.
