Become a Tutor

Academic Support Center Policies

Tutoring is available for students registered in

Credit, Pre-Credit, and Adult Education (ESL/GED) courses only

For Students:

  • To receive tutoring, GED/ESL, Pre-Credit, and Credit students (North Campus) must be enrooled in their classes for the current semester.

  • We do not schedule tutoring session during student's class time.

  • Tutoring is by appointment, although some walk-in time is available.

  • Students are to keep their appointments. Two unexcused absences forfeit appointment privileges.

  • If a student does not show up for an appointment within ten minutes, the appointment will be cancelled.

  • Students will be tutored one-on-one for one hour per session. Additional tutoring will be provided based on the needs of the students and/ or the availability of tutors.

For Faculty:

  • English and Mathematics: Fill out a referral form for each student you submit. It helps the tutors that instructor be as clear as possible when filling out the referral form.

  • Referral forms are required for students registered in GED/ESL, Pre-Credit and developmental classes.

  • English Instructors: For proof reading essays, please make sure that the student's first draft has been graded or marked for correction before we proof their rewrite.

  • The tutoring sessions do not replace in-class instruction.

Student Responsibilities:

  • Be on time for your appointment and speak quietly so as not to disturb others.

  • Have a specific task to accomplish.

  • Bring your textbooks, notes, assignments, or any other materials that will be needed to help you in your tutoring session.

  • Read any books, chapters, or articles assigned.

  • Give 24-hour notice, if possible, when canceling an appointment.

  • Try to do the assignments on your own.

  • Write down or mark off questions or problems you could not understand.

  • Do not wait until the last moment to see a tutor. Make your appointment at least one week in advance.
