Preparing to Transfer? Here is how...

  • Decide on a major
Colleges/universities do not offer all majors. If you have not decided on a major we encourage you to sign-up for a Career Assessment Workshop in the Student Academic Success Center – Room A-120. The seating is limited, please sign-up early.

  • Reference Transfer Guides
Many colleges/universities make available Transfer Guides for students attending community colleges who are considering transferring to four year institutions. The Student Academic Success Center has placed copies of the Transfer Guides on the wall right outside the Financial Aid Office.

  • Visit the colleges/universities you are considering
This will help you decide if you feel comfortable in their particular setting. The Student Academic Success Center sponsors tours to area colleges/universities, stop by A-120 and sign-up.

  • Meet with an Admissions Counselor at the colleges/universities you are considering.

  • Verify transfer requirements
Each college/university may differ on their transfer requirements. Check on the eligibility criteria which may differ with each specific school and/or major.

  • Visit the Transfer Center
The Transfer Center is located within the Student Academic Success Center in Room A-120. Students have access to computers and a resource library containing college catalogs, applications, and organized information on over 30 area colleges and universities.

  • Meet with a College Advisor
College Advisors are available in the Student Academic Success Center to assist you with an Educational Plan and with the selection of general education requirements. College Advisors are available on a walk-in basis and by appointment. We encourage students to visit with the College Advisors early in the semester to avoid the long wait.

  • Attend a Transfer and Scholarship Workshop
Transfer and Scholarship Workshops are scheduled in the Fall and Spring semesters. Stop by Room A-120 to sign-up.

  • Explore your financial aid and scholarship options
Apply for financial aid and scholarships as early as possible. Stop by the Student Academic Success Center/Transfer Center to view scholarship binder and other scholarship information.

  • Complete the admission application
Please note that colleges/universities have deadlines for the submission of applications and you must abide by such deadlines.

Good luck with your decision to transfer.
