PLEASE NOTE: 

The ASC will close for the semester at 2:00PM on Friday, May 12, 2017. Have a great break!
The ASC will be open for computer lab use, printing, and front desk services only from June 7 - June 9, 2017.
The ASC will offer summer tutoring appointments from June 12 - July 28, 2017. Summer hours of operations will be:

  • Monday-Thursday, 9:00AM-6:00PM
  • Friday, 9:00AM-2:00PM
  • CLOSED Saturday-Sunday
In the Academic Support Center (ASC), we encourage any student to seek tutoring to gain a deeper comprehension of course content and to enhance learning development. Tutoring can be utilized early in the semester to help students set academic goals and plan ahead for their coursework completion. 

How to find us:
Academic Support is located on the 2nd Floor in Room 2301. We can be accessed by Stairwell and Elevator #7, located behind the Cafeteria, or from the center of the 2nd floor by walking through the Library.Z

We now offer appointments for all subjects. Please visit GradesFirst and click on “Get Tutoring” to make an appointment. Click to see the ​GradesFirst Appointment Reservation Instructions.   

You can also make an appointment in person by visiting Room 2301.  Drop-ins for all subjects are welcome; however, space is limited. We strongly recommend that you schedule an appointment for all services.

Prior to attending their first tutoring session of the Spring 2017 semester, all students will be asked to read and sign the following guidelines:   
   

Academic Support Center (ASC) Tutoring Services Guidelines                        

   

1. Understand the purposes and scheduling of tutoring.
We are happy to assist you with course concept review, study prep, note taking, brainstorming, and final revisions. Scheduled tutoring appointments are limited to one consecutive 50-minute session per subject per day. Drop-in sessions are available on a limited, first-come, first-served basis and may be less than 50 minutes in length.
 

2. Read textbooks and instructors’ materials, and begin assignment work prior to tutoring.
In order to understand the course material, it is essential to read assigned pages from your textbooks and instructors’ handouts. The tutors can provide you with greater assistance when you have read the appropriate material(s).

Always begin work on your assignment(s) prior to requesting a tutor. Bring your work with you to show the tutor the specific concepts with which you want help. You and your tutor can review these concepts and work through similar problems. However, the tutor cannot do your homework for you nor help you with take-home tests, quizzes, or projects.

3. Come prepared to tutoring sessions with a plan and questions.
Bring any relevant textbooks, syllabi, class materials, notes, and papers. Know what goal(s) you would like to accomplish within a tutoring session. Actively participate in the tutoring session by having a list of questions to ask your assigned tutor.

4. Be respectful in ASC work spaces.
Your time with the tutor is valuable. Please do not use your cell phone or cause distractions while working with your assigned tutor. If working in an independent study area, computer use is for academic work only and headphones must be worn to maintain a quiet study area. Children under 14 years of age are not allowed in the ASC.

5. Cancel, reschedule, or alert tardiness to appointments in a timely manner.
You are expected to attend all scheduled tutoring appointments unless you cancel via GradesFirst (at least 24 hours in advance) or contact the ASC front desk. After 2 No Shows, your GradesFirst appointment privileges will be placed on hold. If you are more than 5 minutes late to a scheduled appointment, your appointment will be given to a waiting student and you will be marked as a No Show. To avoid this penalty, call the front desk prior to your appointment start time to inform them of your late arrival. Call: 312-850-7473.
