Department
Mission
The
Department of Architecture's mission will focus on technical skill
development that provides experience in solving problems. We will
try to nurture our student's scientific and aesthetic sensibilities
in an atmosphere of care
and attention.
Goals
The
goal of the Department of Architecture will be the achievement of
our student's potential in Architecture or a related field. Our
emphasis will be to provide an opportunity for the whole person
to develop. The Architectural visual training that a student receives
will specifically include graphicliteracy that will provide ability
for meticulous investigation of technical
documents.
Our objective is a visual training that encourages perception. As
a basis for art and science careers we encourage a comprehensive
and critical
evaluation of problems and their solutions.
Student Learning Outcomes
Architecture
has both an Associates of Arts and Applied Science Degrees. Our
core Architectural coursework will be uniform for both degrees.
The General Education requirements are not uniform. Graduates of
the Department of Architecture should be able to do the following:
- Students
will have a visual literacy in technical drawing.
- Students
will demonstrate an ability to graphically sketch multiple views
of any entity that they see. All students will be capable of technical
drafting of an object or a building in all-orthographic views,
taxonomist projections, and measured perspectives.
- Students will be able to operate all aspects of Computer Aided
Drafting technology. This will include the graphic ability in
the world's most popular software, AutoCAD.
- Students will design, plan and complete
a set of construction documents that demonstrate their competency
in these aspects of the Architectural
process. This will be accomplished both with residential and commercial
documentation.
- All graduates will be able to identify
the classic works of architectural history by sight. Student will
be aware of the major Architectural styles from the ancient to
the Modern.
- We will provide training that will include
oral presentation of their work. A student must demonstrate their
composure and intelligence before an audience in order for successful
completion of our program.
- A student will be able to solve problems
that relate to social science, humanities, and science in a thoughtful
manner.
