The mission of the Wright College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program
is to prepare occupational therapy assistants who are equipped to provide
professionally responsible and competent services to those members of
the public who can benefit from occupational therapy services, and, within
this process, facilitate the development of the program’s students
into effective citizens, able to satisfy their educational and occupational
goals.
The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program recognizes and values the
diversity of its students, who mirror the diverse population of the City
Colleges of Chicago. Within a multicultural framework, students are taught
skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to assist individuals whose abilities
to succeed in their daily occupational roles and tasks, are threatened
or impaired by physical, psychological, or social dysfunction, aging,
developmental deficits, or socio-cultural barriers. The Wright OTA Program’s
mission is to educate students who can deliver quality occupational therapy
services by working collaboratively with other members of service delivery
teams, and under the supervision of occupational therapists. Program
graduates will understand and experience the delivery of occupational
therapy services in a variety of settings including, hospitals, rehabilitation
and long-term care facilities, schools, community agencies, and sheltered
workshops.
The Wright College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accredited
and recognized by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy
Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association, 4720
Montgomery Lane, Bethesda, MD, 20824, (301) 652-2682. Students graduating
from an ACOTE accredited program are eligible to sit for the national
certification examination administered by The National Board for Certification
in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT).
