An extensive online map room with a selection of maps from 1500-1999. Maps have zoom options with guide maps to help pinpoint small areas for close-ups.

Digital Sanborn Maps 1867-1970 (for Illinois)
Large-scale plans of a city or town created to assist fire insurance companies as they assessed the risk associated with insuring a particular property. The maps list street blocks and building numbers in use at the time the maps were made.
